The Hippo Catamaran Boat Range initially derived its name from operators and crew who had acquired the original vessels developed by the Legacy Marine design team and who then promptly dubbed it the “Hippo-Proof Boat”. Designed with African conditions in mind these versatile platforms provide a vast amount of deck space and offers genuine value for money in terms of boating “real estate”. The vessel’s versatility allows for either single or double deck configurations across our entire Hippo range. Typical applications include: Cargo, Ferry, Research, Fishing, Tented or Luxury accommodation and Booze Cruisers. The innovative “knock-down” design allows for disassembly and reassembly at remote locations resulting in ease of transport and vastly reduced shipping costs. The Hippo class has been in production for the past 7-years and during that time has developed from basic 6 m LOA platforms to the 11 m + versions that are available today. Designed with African destination tourism operators in mind, these platforms not only provide a vast amount of deck space at a realistic price (half the price per m2 as compared to a traditional mono hull) but also allow for delivery to remote locations by standard vehicles, as a result greatly reducing the overall on-water-costs.
Imagine fitting a 60 passenger ferry into a 40 foot container for delivery to anywhere in the world that a standard truck can access. This is what the Hippo 1180 can offer in its unique “ knocked down” form. This is an ideal platform to operate as a ferry, cargo boat or to be configured as a camper. Other specialist configurations include the premier photography vessels operated by Nikon Chobe Safari. LOA: 11.8M, BEAM: 4.9M, PASSENGER CAPACITY: UP TO 60 PASSENGERS, PROPOSED PROPULSION: 2X 50-115 HP.
